The American College of the Building Arts (ACBA) educates and trains new generations of artisans in the traditional building arts to foster exceptional craftsmanship and encourage the preservation, enrichment and appreciation of our architectural heritage. Under the direction of our experienced faculty, students will have the opportunity to learn the skills needed to excel in their chosen field, while receiving a quality general education -- culminating in the awarding of a Bachelors degree. This combination of education, training and access to highly experienced faculty is available nowhere else in the United States. Students will study one of the six building trades: Carpentry, Timber Framing, Architectural Stone Carving, Architectural Metalwork, Plasterwork and Brick Masonry. ACBA believes in graduating well-rounded, highly qualified and knowledgeable artisans who can work materials to the highest level of sophistication in the creation and conservation of our buildings. Historically, building artisans were seen as equals to doctors, lawyers and clergy. Unfortunately, the manual trades have lost much of the aura and respect they previously held and are now viewed by many as a last resort for people who have no other options. This trend must be reversed. ACBA is dedicated to reawakening the respect people once had for master builders. Students will receive an excellent general education and the best training available in the building arts. With this education and training in hand, ACBA's graduates will help change the face of America.
